But as of late, things are slowly looking up.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, nearly half (<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.hireahelper.com\/2021-study-where-americans-moved-to-retire-in-2021\/\">47%<\/a>) of Americans who moved after retiring this year went to a different state. This cycling event takes place every July, stopping in several parts of the state to continue on their cycling journey. Harvester is a nationally-recognized golf course situated squarely in the small town of Rhodes, and this championship level 72-par course delivers when it comes to lush landscapes, well-manicured playing spaces and the epitome of a great golf game.<\/span><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Social Security &amp; Retirement Income<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Hawkeye State offers tax deductions and credits to help reduce your tax liability, including a tuition credit, a farm-to-food-donation tax credit, and gambling and theft losses deductions.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Social Security benefits are not taxed in Iowa. You heard that right. Social Security benefits are excluded from income when you&#8217;re figuring out tax.\u00a0 The federal government taxes up to 85% of Social Security benefits depending on your income. This is good news for you, Iowa is one of 38 other states who don&#8217;t tax Social Security income.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are 55 or older and you receive pension or IRA income, there&#8217;s more good news. You may be eligible for a deduction on your Iowa tax return for the cost of living adjustment (COLA) amount. Pension and IRA income, including Social Security income, up to $6,000 is eligible for this deduction.<\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>And wait&#8230; there&#8217;s MORE? Beginning in tax year 2023, Iowans age 55 and older are exempt from state tax on retirement income earned from individual retirement account (IRA) distributions, taxable pensions and annuities. An estimated <a href=\"https:\/\/governor.iowa.gov\/press-release\/gov-reynolds-releases-statement-on-2022-legislative-session%C2%A0%C2%A0%C2%A0\">294,624 Iowa taxpayers<\/a> will see their retirement tax liability eliminated in 2023.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Property Taxes<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are a number of factors that go into the property taxes of any given state. Home values and rates are, of course, a big part. In Iowa, you can expect your effective tax rate to be <a href=\"https:\/\/smartasset.com\/taxes\/iowa-property-tax-calculator\">1.53%,<\/a> which is slightly above average by our calculations. That said, while property taxes paid are moderate in Iowa, the values at which they&#8217;re applied aren&#8217;t particularly high.
